Good meeting yesterday--the energy in the room was amazing! I did review that site Techertube.com and found it has many really good clips for various grade levels--I viewed one podcast that was done by fifth graders called Paper Trained Teachers in a Video Game World. There were others on secondary math and other content areas.

I am anxious to see how our discussion of offering professional development internally will unfold--see what shape it takes. Thanks, Jon Conover, for taking those risks. Collaboration among professionals is the best ticket there is.

I found two great on-line resources this week.
1) A resource guide developed by the University of Washington on building accessible computer labs (i.e., meeting ADA requirements).
http://www.washington.edu/doit/Brochures/Technology/comp.access.html

2) A new report published by State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills Maximizing the Impact: "The Pivotal Role of Technology in a 21st Century Education System"
available at: http://www.setda.org/web/guest/maximizingimpactreport

Terrific article--thanks for posting. Also, wanted to give a brief update as to Monday's meeting. Thanks to all who participated. The committee agreed that we need a high school teacher as, for some reason, that level was missed. Sean Gnat has had several inquries and will move forward with inviting an new member. We establsihed several ad hoc subcommittees and appointed Committee liaisons to put together a cross seciton of reps to do very strategic reviews and recommendations. These committees are thus far identified as :

Peripheral Committee, Liaison, John Bullington. Projector distribuiton committee, Liaison, Dean Mayes
Data bases Committee, Liaison, Lisa Correa Software review committee, Liaison, Jon Conover
Distance Learning Committee, Liaison, Sean Gnat
Online Learning Committee, Liaison, Steve Smith
VOD/Cable Committee, Liason, Brian Whitley

We will be establishing a survey of staff perceptions and needs that can be completed at department or grade level meetings.

The next District Committee meeting is November 8 at which ad hocs will report any info they have garnered. The committee selected Dec 11 for a subsequent meeting date. They will be 12-3--locations to be determined.

I am trying once more! I want to thank you, Adrien, for getting this up and running. I have had a conversation with Dean and it looks like we might be able to set up the professional development training center with smart boards sooner rather than later. That way, the lead teachers and the staff dev folks can model, practice and become comfortable with the technology so that as we move ahead we will have some turn key trainers totally up to speed with the capacity, which will undoubtedly serve the faculty well.
